Elizabeth Paek attended law school to pursue her passion in family law. She was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, and graduated from McKinley High School. In 1997, she received her Bachelor of Arts
degree in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College with an emphasis in legal studies. She obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law in 2003, where she also received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in legal writing. Elizabeth is a published author, and previously served as an editor and board member of the University of Hawai‘i Law Review. In 2003, Elizabeth became a member of the Hawai‘i State Bar Association.
She has worked in many different areas of the law since she began her undergraduate studies. Starting in 1997, she worked as a personal injury legal assistant at Park Park Yu & Remillard, bankruptcy/collections legal assistant at The Law Offices of Steven Guttman, legislative intern for the Washington State Senate (Senator Pat Thibaudeau), legislative aid for the State of Hawai‘i House of Representatives (Representative Roy M. Takumi), general practice law clerk for Kessner Duca Bain & Umebayashi, criminal law clerk for the State of Hawai‘i Circuit Court (Judge Steven S. Alm), and family law attorney at The Law Offices of William C. Darrah.
Elizabeth actively volunteers and contributes her time to both the legal and non-legal community in Hawai‘i. Elizabeth volunteered as an interpreter for the Legal Aid Society assisting indigenous Korean immigrant clients with their divorce (1998 - present), and also volunteered for the First Circuit Family Court's Kids First Program (2005-2007). She co-authored the Journal of Hawai‘i Family Law and contributed to the Hawai‘i Divorce Manual (2004-2007). In 2007, Elizabeth was recognized by the Hawai‘i State Bar Association as "Outstanding Volunteer" for her exceptional service to the Bar.
At the present time, Elizabeth is a volunteer mediator at the Mediation Center of the Pacific, law clerk to the State of Hawai‘i Child Support Guidelines Task Force, and member of both the First Circuit Family Court Memos Committee and Property Division Chart/Asset & Debt and Income & Expense Committees. In 2007, she was elected Treasurer of the Hawai‘i State Bar Association's Family Law Section, and continues to serve as both Treasurer and Board Member of the Section. In 2008, Elizabeth was appointed as a Board Member of Helping Hands Hawai‘i and served as one of the dinner chairs at the 2009 fundraiser.
Elizabeth also participates in many speaking engagements. She was invited to speak at the Maui Bar's monthly continuing legal education meeting (2007), First Circuit Family Court Per Diem Judges' meeting (2008), Statewide Family Court Judicial Symposium (2008), Family Law Section's Paralegal Training Seminar (2008) and the Hawai‘i Paralegal Association's Education Conference (2009). Elizabeth's active involvement with the family law community keeps her up-to-date with current trends in the field enabling her to provide the best possible representation to her clients.
